Regional Food Service History

Naval Support Activity Norfolk Regional Food Service

Regional Food Service was established in December 1998, before that each galley was responsible to their specific base Commanding Officer.

Regional food service original galleys consisted of NAS Norfolk, NAS Oceana, NWS Yorktown, Northwest Annex, NAB Little Creek, FTC Damneck, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Wallops Island, and Cheatham Annex. NAS Norfolk closed in the fall of 1999, followed by the closing of Cheatham Annex in the fall of 2004 and finally Norfolk Naval Shipyard succumbed to closure in September 2005, as well. October 2006 marked a great time in Regional Foodservice history with the addition of three new facilities from New London, Brunswick, and Newport, Rhode Island to our pack.

The chain of command in Regional Foodservice starts with the Commanding Officer, then the Executive Officer, then outward to the various program managers. The Command Master Chief is the direct representative of the enlisted personnel to the Commanding Officer. The Chief Master-at-Arms and Career Counselor have direct links to the Executive Officer. The Chaplain serves the command as a religious and spiritual leader.

Regional Food Service Headquarters is centrally located at Naval Station Norfolk, Building I-AA, second Floor, room #209. The Regional Food Service Director is a GS-12, retired Limited Duty Officer with a military staff supporting all regional galley facilities and their activities.
